William “Bill” R. Bickerstaff, 91 of Aliquippa, passed away peacefully at home Friday December 8, 2023.
Bill was born on December 15, 1931 in Rochester, PA, a son of the late William and Dorothy (Dean) Bickerstaff.
Bill honorably served in the US Army as a Corporal from December 1952 through August of 1954. In July 1953 he was wounded by a mortar attack while serving in the Korean War. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his service.
After serving in the Army he worked various jobs until joining J&L Steel in December 1957. Retiring in 1986 with 28 years of service from the BOF at the age of 55. Bill spent his retirement enjoying his passion for family, sports, dancing and cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Whitworth, Carol Lawrence, and Jean Cuifo.
Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara (Landers) Bickerstaff; son Richard Hendrickson and his wife Cindy; daughter Shari Calabria and her husband Shawn and son Robert Bickerstaff and his wife Veronica.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Miranda Bickerstaff and her fiancée Frank Gagliardo; Trent, Gavin, and Alyssa Bickerstaff; Bryce and Garrett Calabria; J.T. Hendrickson and his fiancée Brittany French; Kylie Ackerman and her husband Adam.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 11:00 am until time of service at 1pm in Darroch Cremation and Funeral Tributes, Inc., 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa www.darrochfuneralhome.com
