Samuel M. (McCrickert) Lippincott, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, December 14, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family and beloved animals: Sunny, Bug and MR. He was born August 22, 1930 in Lee Community, Upper Beechview in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Sam was the son of Samuel and Kathryn (Neatrour) Lippincott, and the brother of the late Sarah Jane Van Osterom. He was a graduate of South Hills High School, served in the Army during the Korean War then attended Edinboro College where he met and married his late wife, Lois Jane Osborne. They were married for 60 years and were the parents of Robert Lippincott and Mary Kathryn (Lippincott) Karger and Father-in-law to Terri Lippincott, and Dale Karger. Sam has five grandchildren: Sarah Lois Krickeberg and her husband Correy, Nathan Karger, Rachel McDaniel and her husband Scott, Samuel Dale Lippincott and and his wife Jennifer, and Jeremy Lippincott. He also has three great grandchildren, Maegan and Andrew McDaniel, and Spring Krickeberg. In 1950 Sam was a steel fitter for Industrial Furnace Engineering Corporation in Pittsburgh. In 1962 he made a career change which became not only his life’s vocation but one of his passions. Sam worked as a Supervisor for the William Lintz Sheltered Workshop which served as a work placement center for young adults with special needs. As the workshop grew and improved throughout the years, so did Sam’s responsibilities at the Workshop. In 1970 Lintz Sheltered Workshop became part of the newly formed Beaver County Rehabilitation Center which offered many more diverse rehabilitation services. In 1974, Sam became the Center’s Executive Director. Sam served as director for seventeen years and retired in 1990. The Lintz Sheltered Workshop had evolved into a major facility (BCRC) providing work for hundreds of displaced individuals, and Sam had been part of this since its inception. He was extremely proud of his contribution to Mr. Lintz’s vision. Sam’s other passion of breeding and showing purebred dogs was shared by his wife. Together they bred beautiful Shetland Sheepdogs and Pembroke Welsh Corgis for 45 years. He was also a life member of Columbiana Kennel Club as well as the Southside Celtic Society. Sam enjoyed his monthly breakfast meetings with his retired coworkers of BCRC as well as his dinners with the upper Beechview group. He was a faithful attendee at the South Hills High School Reunions. He was also a member of the American Legion.
