Mayvon Candelmo, 87, of Hopewell Twp., passed away peacefully on Friday December 1, 2023 with her sons by her side.
She was born on May 6, 1936 in Rochester, PA a daughter of the late John and Margaret (Huey) Sampson. Mayvon was an active member of Mary, Queen of Saints Parish-Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Earlier in her life, she worked for J&L Steel Corp. She stopped to raise her family and then continued working as a teachers aid for the Hopewell Area School District before retiring. She was devoted to her family and she cherished her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alex “Cookie” Candelmo; and her only sister, June Batvinskas.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff Candelmo and his wife Julie; and Greg Candelmo and his wife Jody; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Allen) Hofmann; Joe (Kim) Candelmo; Emily (Damin Muth) Candelmo; Jeff (Kim) Candelmo, Jr.; Scott (Katie) Candelmo; Brycen (Natalia) Candelmo; and Brandon Michel. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm in Darroch Cremation and Funeral Tributes, Inc., 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa www.darrochfuneralhome.com where prayers will be offered on Thursday at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
