John F. Hartman, 88, of Raccoon Twp., formerly of New Oxford, passed away peacefully on Sunday April 14, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 23, 1936 in Norfolk, Virginia a son of the late Frank and Bonnie (Brooks) Hartman. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps. John retired from Westinghouse where he worked as an electronics engineer. He was an active Ham Radio Operator and he was a member of the Beaver County Association for the Blind. He left a legacy of books that he created over the years (The John Hartman Library). John enjoyed travelling, both around the country and the world. Of his many accolades, John was most proud of his involvement in rescuing victims of the 1985 Mexico City Earthquake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Iona (Hileman) Hartman; an infant son, Jamie Lee Hartman; two brothers, Roscoe Hartman, who passed away at an early age and Bucky Hartman; and a sister, Caroline Hartman. He was also preceded in death by a step-son, Allen Glassman.
John is survived by his wife, Betty Hartman; a daughter, Ginny Schneider and her husband Terry; two sons, Eric Hartman and his wife Colleen; and Alan Hartman and his wife Liz; four grandchildren; Terry (Ashley) Schneider, Jr.; Crystal (Will) Oberbeck; Ashley (Craig) Williams; and Kelsey (Josh) Snider; and seven great grandchildren, Shelby; Chase; Parker; Bowen; Deegan; Kaydence; and Tony. He is also survived by four step-children, Carol Haga; Donna Conneally; Denise Ralph; and John Glassman, Jr.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to Missy for the friendship, support and nurturing that she provided John and family.
There will be no local services for John. He will be laid to rest next to his first wife Iona in the family cemetery in Saint Paul, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Beaver County Association for the Blind.
