Frances Virginia Hummel

Frances Virginia Hummel, 94, of Hopewell Twp., passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024. 

She was born on January 19, 1930 in Gallipolis Ferry, WV a daughter of the late Lloyd and Lyda (Neal) Weathers. She was a 1948 graduate of Hopewell High School.  Frances was a devoted member of Mary, Queen of Saints Parish-Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and the Faith Sharing Group. She was also a volunteer for the Contact Helpline.  She worked as a school aid in the Hopewell Area School District and she retired from Hopewell Township where she had worked for many years in various administrative roles. She enjoyed travelling with her husband, especially their many trips to Hawaii.  She also enjoyed bus trips with her aunt Goldie Neal and her sister-in-law, Lois Hummel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Alcuin Joseph Hummel; a son, Roche Hummel; and two sisters, Willa Kocher and Joanne Sostarich.

Frances is survived by her children, Joy Lynne Walker and her husband Joseph; Alcuin Hummel and his wife Kathi; Darlene Farabee and her husband Matthew; and Virginia Zusman; three grandchildren, Sarah Wallace and her husband Matt; Kaly Gluth and her husband Kenny; and Hadley Kennedy and her husband Ryan; and three great grandchildren, Theodor, Ty, and Archer Gluth.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of The Masonic Village of Sewickley as well as the nurses and staff of Gallagher Hospice for their warm and compassionate care.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3pm to 7pm in Darroch Cremation and Funeral Tributes, inc., 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa www.darrochfuneralhome.com where prayers will be offered on Wednesday at 9:30am followed by a  Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Entombment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
