Of Hanover Township; age 86; passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Daughter of the late William Cyril Guinard and Martha Helen McPherson; sister of Linda Kile; wife of the late Orville “Bud” Hough; loving mother of Stewart (Lisa) Hough, Brian Hough, and Cheryl Hough; cherished grandmother of Cassandra (Justin) Stone, Jonathan Hough, Rachael (Joshua) Hartley, Katelyn (Lukas) Frey, and Emily DeLuca; Step-grandmother of Brittany Huff (Mitlo), Arron Huff and Bella Mitlo; adored great-grandmother of Vivienne and Lila Stone. She is also survived by her nieces, Sharon and Monica, and her nephew, Brett; as well as many other loved ones among her extended family.
To say Betty was dependable was an understatement. She rarely missed a day of work as a customer service agent for the airlines, and she was a devoted friend and congregant to many at the Hanover Presbyterian Church for most of her adult life. She happily attended Bible Study and assisted her church family as often as she could before suffering a stroke in 2017.
Betty was known for telling a good story and lending a listening ear to anyone who needed one. If you ever came to her home, then you know you instantly became a member of her family. There was no problem so big it couldn’t be solved with a talk and a drink around her kitchen table—usually over a cup of tea or a gin and tonic—and there was never, ever a shortage of love. Betty was a wonderful mother and the kind of grandmother (and great-grandmother) you read about in storybooks. Not a day will go by where she isn’t sorely missed and deeply loved.
A private graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 17. Friends and family will be received immediately afterward at Hanover Presbyterian Church, 2462 PA-18, Clinton, PA 15026 at 11 a.m., for a memorial service in Betty’s honor, followed by a reception full of food and shared memories.
Because no one loved getting lost in a good book more than Betty, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local library in her honor. Please remember our Betty anytime you find beauty in nature, enjoy a good story, or do something kind for someone you love.
