Barbara “Barb” Ann (Landers) Bickerstaff, 88, of Aliquippa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
Barb was born on May 3, 1936, in Sewickley, PA, the only child of the late Kenneth and Dorothy (Semick) Landers.
Barb began her working life as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone. After that, she went on to work for Mutual of Omaha Tele-Trip, where she would spend decades selling travel insurance, currency exchange, and locker storage at Pittsburgh International Airport. Barb ascended through the ranks to become President and Owner of Staff Airport Services (SAS) despite only holding a high school diploma. Her final role at Mutual of Omaha was Vice President of Training and Internal Audit. She was quite proud of her VP position, which allowed her to travel around the entire country. After retirement, she worked with the Aliquippa baseball/softball volunteer community managing the T-ball league and the field’s concession stand.
Despite her remarkable career accomplishments, nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She cherished time with each of them, especially when they were doing crafts or having fun in the backyard pool. She made gorgeous baptismal bonnets, painted beautiful art works, and cooked the best baked beans. Barb poured so much love into her family that it will last for generations.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William “Bill” Bickerstaff.
Barb is survived by her children; son Richard Hendrickson and his wife Cindy; daughter Shari Calabria and her husband Shawn, and son Robert Bickerstaff and his wife Veronica.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Miranda, Trent, Gavin, and Alyssa Bickerstaff; Bryce and Garrett Calabria; J.T. Hendrickson and his fiancée Brittany French; Kylie Ackerman and her husband Adam.
Friends will be received on Thursday, August 15, from 11:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 1:00 pm in Darroch Cremation & Funeral Tributes, Inc., 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa. www.darrochfuneralhome.com.
