Ann B. Shematek

Ann Barletta Shematek, 94, formerly of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 in Easton, Maryland, where she resided for the past five years. 

She was born on February 15, 1921 in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Tito and Gentelina Barletta, and was a member of St. Titus Catholic Church, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers and the Queens of Columbus.

In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew Shematek; her brother, William Barletta; her sister, Eugenia Pilotti Bufalini; and her son-in-law, Bernard Carifo.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Jon Shematek and his wife Dr. Lynn Shematek, of Baltimore, Maryland; and two daughters, Gene Marie Shematek and her husband Roland George, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Linda Shematek Carifo of Bradenton, Florida; three grandchildren, Anne Shematek Smith of Baltimore, Maryland, Christopher Shematek and his wife Haritha D. Shematek of Sykesville, Maryland, and Lianne English Dupuis and her husband Darcy Dupuis of Ontario, Canada; and five great-grandchildren, Emma Smith, Matthew Smith, Maya Shematek, Leo Dupuis and Laila Shematek; nephew Ron Barletta of Colorado, niece Piera Bufalini of Italy, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank the staff at Heartfields Assisted Living in Easton, Maryland, for their kindness and compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Titus Catholic Church. Interment to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
