Richard S. Yakupkovic

Richard S. Yakupkovic  Sr., 79, of Hopewell Twp., passed away peacefully on December 25, 2016 at Evergreen Personal Care Home in Harmony Pa.

Born on March 25, 1937 in Leetsdale, Pa he was the son of the late John and Regina (Zak) Yakupkovic and a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Richard graduated from Leetsdale High School and The University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He spent his early career working for Martin Marietta in Baltimore, Maryland on the Gemini Project, the second space program whose mission was to design aircraft for extended space travel. He later returned to Hopewell, Pa retiring from J&L Steel. His hobbies included playing the accordion and card games with his family. He was also an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Yakupkovic; brother, John E. Yakupkovic of Greenbelt, Maryland; a sister, Mary Ann Koren of Hopewell Pa.

Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna Sarah (Cino) Yakupkovic; a son, Richard Yakupkovic Jr. and his wife, Colleen and grandsons  Nathan and David of Canonsburg Pa; a daughter, Francine G. Vollmer and her husband Mark, and grandson Luke of North Strabane; along with many nieces and nephews.

Richard’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff and nurses at Evergreen Personal Care Home for the care and compassion that they showed him.

Friends will be received on Wednesday December 28, 2016 from 2p-4p and 6p-8p in the Darroch Memorial Chapel Inc., 2640 Mill Street Aliquippa Pa, www.darrochfuneralhome.com where closing prayers will be offered on Thursday morning at 9:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church

Internment to follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery
