George “Bud” Jena, 88, of Friendship Ridge, formerly of Monaca and Vanport, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015.

He was born on April 29, 1927 in Monaca, a son of the late George D. and Mary (Konvolinka) Jena and he was a 1945 graduate of Monaca High School where he excelled in basketball.   He was a life long avid sports fan and followed both local and national sports teams.  He was a member of C.I.O. Local 1211, a retired member of Monaca Legion Post 580, a member of the Saxon Club, a retired member of Monaca Cornet and Band Room, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Marie Jena; two brothers, John Jena and Francis Joseph Jena; and three sisters, Colletta  Rose Jena, Margaret Waskaski, and Lillian Jena.

George is survived by nieces and nephews, Bill and John Schrum, Scott, Brian, and Dirk Walsh, Linda and Debbie Jena; a good friend and caregiver, Donna Shilling; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Jena.  He is also survived by several grand nieces and grand nephews.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of 2 west at Friendship Ridge for their kind and compassionate care.

Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4pm to 8pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa www.darrochfuneralhome.com where prayers will be offered on Thursday at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Monaca.

Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
