Genevieve Elizabeth Harchick, 88 was peacefully called to be with the Lord on August 5, 2016.

Born on December 7, 1927, the daughter of the late Sophie and William P. Harchick
from Aliquippa, PA, she shared many stories of how she loved to “play school” as a young girl.
Graduating from Mt. Gallitzin High School in 1946, Genevieve continued her life long passion of education by receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the State Teachers College at Clarion University, Pa in 1950. She continued for a masters degree during the summers at Penn State University.

As a life long resident of Aliquippa, PA she taught in the Aliquippa school district for over
40 years, teaching grades 1-12. She proudly helped to shape the young lives of NFL players, coaches and other successful members of our community. She loved each of her students as if they were her own children.

Lovingly known as “Gin Gin” to her family, she often shared stories of her past travels. Some of her favorite memories included: Attending the 1933 Chicago’s World Fair and seeing the first television, traveling by cruiseship from the US to Europe with her Father, driving from Pennsylvania to Alaska in the 60s, reeling in a sailfish off the coast of the Florida Keys and going to Walt Disney World so she could loudly sing “It’s a Small World” known as her favorite ride.

Her other life’s passions included being an active member of St. Francis Cabrini Church, listening, singing and dancing to Polka music, cheering-on the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins, sewing, shopping and enjoying a bowl of ice cream at the end of the day!

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother William A. Harchick.

She is survived by her sister-in law Ruth Ann Harchick (John W. Smith) both whom lovingly remained at her side during her final moments, her nephews Anthony (Kathy) Harchick and Christopher Harchick of Florida, a niece Theresa (Brad) Barbey of Florida, one grandnephew Anthony Harchick and three grandnieces: Adriana Harchick, Ava and Claudia Barbey all from Florida.

Genevieve loved to sign every card or letter with “May God Bless you and may He keep you in the palm of His hand”.

As Genevieve requested, there will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa, www.darrochfunerahome.com

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church on Thursday August 11, 2016 at 10 am

Internment will follow in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery
